Please welcome Laura Murphy of Wilde Thyme as my next guest blogger! Laura is a mixed-media artist who agreed to share her thoughts on freeform fiber art, painting and contrasting/comparing them. I haven’t yet posted about her on my new, reorganized blog… but let me introduce you to Lyra. Lyra, who is sadly now in doggy heaven, was the Great Pyrenees who graced our lives for many years.

Recently I made a donation in her honor to the Florida Great Pyrenees Club and would like to shine the spotlight on what I consider to be a very worthy organization. The FGPC focuses on breed care and rescue, fostering and placing rescued dogs with forever homes. Please consider supporting them or another rescue organization.

I sometimes suffer from kitchen apathy when cooking for myself so I’ve started Cookbook Dipping. I pick a random cookbook and a random recipe from it. I think this will be a great way to try recipes I might have otherwise overlooked. This week… The Barefoot Contessa’s Fresh Corn Salad!

My first Guest Blogger is the lovely and talented Laura of HolySimian’s Stitches. (Find her on Ravelry as HolySimian.) Laura is an amazingly talented knitter and designer. She has agreed to share her technique for knitting perfectly even mini-cables.

Sometimes I need help. I have a hard time with that. Admitting vulnerabilities has never really served me well, nor has admitting failures. I rejoined Weight Watchers last week. Right now, I need to be accountable to a semi-anonymous someone outside of my daily life. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve dropped out of the program. I think that, fundamentally, it is a good program but it just wasn’t addressing why I was overeating in the first place. Now that I’ve dealt with some of those issues, I’m moving forward again. Good thing, too. The number on the scale was just… surreal. And scary. And heartbreaking.

Once or twice a month, I will be inviting various friends and family members to act as guest bloggers. I plan to have a variety of topics ranging from crafts to cooking to financial info to microbrewing. Next up… a video tutorial from the lovely and talented HolySimian on a technique she’s developed for knitting mini-cables.
